Organising Part 2 & 3

(I was going to post this yesterday but life got in the way lol)

So today is all about having a plan. We’ve been given some questions to think about.

1. What do I want the purpose of my room or area to be?
2. What do I need in or near the room to serve that purpose?
3. What can I remove from the room?
4. What problems do I see with the room?
5. What organizational tools might solve those problems?
6. What habits need to change to solve the organizational problems?
7. What kind of a budget do I have to create the organized room of my dreams?
8. What kind of a timeline is necessary to organize the room? (28 days!)
9. What is my plan of action?
10. Who can I ask to help me with this?  (working with a friend can be fun, productive and encouraging)

so I thought I’d blog my answers

1. What do I want the purpose of my room or area to be? Somewhere relaxing. A retreat to get away to each night. Somewhere to spend time alone with hubby.
2. What do I need in or near the room to serve that purpose? Our bed with some nice comfy pillows. Storage for our clothes. Better way of storing my CDs & stereo.
3. What can I remove from the room? The TVs (yes we have 2 in there atm). Anything that is not required in the bedroom. Possibly the dressing table. All the nursery stuff that is currently being stored in our room.
4. What problems do I see with the room? At the moment – too much stuff. Things not being put away. Clutter on every surface. Hubby not putting his stuff away. To many items for the size of the room. It needs to be repainted. Not a biggie but it would be nice.
5. What organizational tools might solve those problems?
My storage wish list for our bedroom

PDI24Diamond Drawer Organisers for socks in bedside tables.

2069_EIC1680A coat rack for storing our scarves & coats. Not a necessity but would b nice ;)

1837_PTM1290_01_533An earring organiser cause atm my earrings are everywhere

1847_PTM5938_01_533 and my necklaces are the same

I’d love some under bed storage to store our sheets and off season clothing (so winter clothing in summer and summer clothing in winter)

I think I’d like some of these to better organise our wardrobe. I would really love to set up one of inbuilt wardrobe/shelving things instead of our current wardrobe & chest of drawers.

6. What habits need to change to solve the organizational problems? Clothes need to be put away after they are washed & dried not just left. Things that don’t belong in the bedroom don’t need to be brought into the bedroom. Things put away where they belong after use.
7. What kind of a budget do I have to create the organized room of my dreams? A very small one – everything has gone on doing up our new office & bub’s room.
8. What kind of a timeline is necessary to organize the room? (28 days!) By the end of February. I may not have all my storage solutions in place but as long as the room is more organised, neater and more relaxing I’ll be happy.
9. What is my plan of action? Ummmm.

  • Start by sorting through our clothes and either packing away non seasonal clothes (& stuff that won’t fit til after bub is born), donating clothes that haven’t been worn in ages or chucking stuff that is full of holes.
  • Moving the TVs out to the garage.
  • Moving the stuff for the nursery into the nursery.

10. Who can I ask to help me with this?  (working with a friend can be fun, productive and encouraging) Hubby, Mum

I’ve been told I’m a little mad doing this while due any day now with bub no 1 but I’m in serious nesting mode atm ROFL and our bedroom is driving me MAD. Looking forward to having somewhere clean & relaxing to retreat to each night.

So the next step is about removing & sorting. Hmm sounds like the basics of my plan lol. Will be taking things fairly easy tomorrow so will do some clothes sorting. Will ask hubby to move the heavier stuff into the nursery (if that’s where it’s going). TVs will have to wait until the weekend when one of our friends comes round to help lift it.

Organising

Ok so I know I’m due any time in the next 14 days and an organising challenge is probably the last thing I should be undertaking BUT our bedroom is a total shambles & I would really love to have it neater and organised. A room where I can relax and not have to climb over piles of clean washing (or boxes atm)and be able to find the clothes I want (& a wish of hubby putting away his clean clothes would b nice too LOL)

Anyways I’m going to take part in this

OrgJunkieLarge-12 (click on the image to go to the welcome post)

So our challenge today is to pick a room & take some before pictures.

My room choice: our main bedroom

& yup that is my kitty cat asleep in the clean washing.

January 2010 Roundup

Well it’s that time of month again – time for my monthly round up.

(The idea & questions for my round up come from Katie the Scrapbook Lady.)

  • What books and/or magazines did I read this month? What to Expect When You’re Expecting
  • What movies, television shows, plays, etc. did I watch this month? Dr Who DVDs
  • What fun things did I do with my family and/or friends? Went out for a couple of meals due to January being a busy month for birthdays
  • What gifts did I give and/or receive? Gave – Dad a Sony DSLR for his 60th. Received – New Mothers Journal, some Hot Milk PJs, a cute little white tiger ornament, some cupcake thingies, a Hawks hat, some clothes for bub, a car seat organiser, a CM album & blank pagesand a lamb PJ bag.
  • What special or unusual purchases did I make? Got some prints framed for the nursery.
  • What illnesses or health concerns did I have? Swollen ankles
  • What were my accomplishments this month? Learning how easy it is to lay floating floorboards.
  • What were my disappointments this month? Taking so long to get the nursery done.
  • How did I do on my goals for the month? (Or any current short or long term goals) Didn’t set any goals for January really, except for getting the nursery set up (which is almost done) and getting the office finished.
  • Anything else noteworthy to include? The side fence is done.

Tasks to do

  1. Back up all digital pictures. Format memory cards. Sort all January photos into 2010 folder. Make a backup copy of the photos onto my desktop computer and EHD.
  2. Backup any other documents or files as needed.
  3. Backup my blog.
  4. Clean off my work area, empty my inbox, and clean up my computer files.

Goals for February (something new I’m starting this month)

  • Get the nursery finished before bub is born.
  • Take more photos
  • Journal every day.

Songbird Ave

As many of you know I *HEART* this site with a passion.

If you don’t know about Songbird Avenue, well it’s a great digital site that creates a new kit each month with a different guest designer/s. They’ve been open since mid 2007 and donate their sales (after paypal fees) to various charities.

I’m proud to say that I own every kit they have released since they opened – can you say slightly obsessed LOL I mean at $US8 per kit – they are a bargain and the money goes to a good cause (even if most of the causes are in the US)

Their upcoming February kit features 56 designers (!!), 104 papers, 208 elements, 6 templates and 8 alphas.

SBA-portauprince-peek1So pop on over to Songbird Avenue on 1st February and help support another great cause.

It’s all about me today

ROFL well it is my birthday biggrin

Had a great day. Went to an appointment at the hospital to check all is well with me & bub. Looks like they are happy to let me go to term (or slightly over) so no induction dance Have another appointment next week. I still can’t believe it’s only 2 weeks away! As always, sub to my baby blog if you want to keep up to date.

Mum & I picked up the Deborah Woods pictures we had framed for the nursery. Will share pictures soon.

Got some awesome pressies

Hubby gave me the New Mother’s Journal. It’s awesome.

Mum & Dad gave me some Hot Milk PJs (OMG I love the Hot Milk range), a cute little white tiger ornament and some cupcake thingies.

The inlaws gave me a Hawks hat, some clothes for bub, a car seat organiser & a CM album & blank pages.

Had a few phone calls from rellies on the mainland as well. Was nice to catch up with them. Have added some more family on Facebook. Gotta love that LOL

Onto other news……..

Not much on the scrapping front to report.

Renovation wise – the new office is done apart from curtains. It’s looking really good. The nursery is almost done, just need to finish patching up some holes & paint over them. then I can set up the cot.

Project 365 is going along ok so far in 2010. I’ve got 26 photos uploaded to my Picasa album here and my layouts for my 2010 album are here. You can always sub to my Project 365 blog to keep up to date

Well it’s nearly 11pm so I guess I should head to bed. Will be pottering around here tomorrow. Still moving stuff to the new office. Will catch up on some housework as well.

Been awhile

since I posted.

So much is going one around here at the moment. We’ve been working on the back room trying to get that all ready so we can move computers out & set up the nursery.

Done a few digi layouts. most are on my Project 365 blog.

Here’s a couple I’ve done for the weekly Log Your Memory 2010 challenges.

Week 1
LYM_Week One

Week 2

LYM_Week-Two

Week 3

It’s weird how I go thru stages of doing a heap of digi scrapping and hardly any paper scrapping (or the other way round).

I’ve also been working on some more pages for my bub journal. Will share some of them over the weekend.

Well that’s about it from me for now.

Finally

I have picked my word for 2010

FAMILY

I’m thinking bout a layout to showcase my word. Think I’ll add it to one of my 2010 albums I’m working on.

Family is going to be such a big thing this year for us, what with the addition to our family in the next 6 weeks.

Lots to do today so will be back later :)
